Gay Pride Month: Sun, Jun 1, 2025 – Mon, Jun 30, 2025. Richard Bookwalter and Galen Leung with Galen’s mother Maria Yuen Yau Leung who lives with them. Married 19 February 2004 after San Francisco announces that the city will be issuing same sex marriage licenses and performing weddings at City Hall. During the 3 weeks that same-sex marriage was performed nearing 4000 licenses were issued. Eventually the courts stopped the ceremonies and for the next 4 years everyone waited for the courts to decide a suit brought by SF. In 2008 the California Supreme Court ruled that gay marriage was a right. Marriages started once again, which was negated by a statewide ballot measure, which in turn was overturned by the US Supreme Court. Photo: Robert Gumpert 2004
