A 2018 San Francisco demonstration against ICE and Trump immigration polices. Now, as of 9 June 2025, Trump has ramped up deportations and a travel ban from 12, mostly African, countries. He has now federalized the California National Guard and is threatening to send in the US Marines.  As yet his administration does seems to be leaving businesses alone.

Name withheld, 59.  Has been homeless for one and half years.  She won’t go into a shelter because she has found them unsafe. She would be good with an SRO but to get on a list requires giving her history, being interviewed and an ID. She has had 3 IDs, all lost, and is hesitant to get another, or give her history as she believes she is being stalked.  She has been sleeping on the ground between a fence and bridge abutment for several weeks.

Jasmine Lynn-Byron, 39, update.  Visiting friends near 9th and Bryant, Jasmine reports that as San Francisco moves away from harm reduction she has seen a return to unsafe practices such as reusing discarded needles, increasing the likelihood of HIV and hepatitis.  Narcan, perhaps most responsible for a decline in drug deaths, has also become much more difficult to get and overdose deaths are expected to rise.
